About

Welcome to the At-Home Learning Centre! We are a K-9 school within Fort Vermilion School Division, where all instruction occurs in an online, synchronous format. Our main office is located in the town of High Level, Alberta in the Northwestern region of the province. Our school serves students from communities throughout Fort Vermilion School Division: Rainbow Lake, High Level, Meander River, Rocky Lane, Fort Vermilion, La Crete, Buffalo Head Prairie, Blue Hills and rural areas in between.

Introduction

Our school day starts with morning announcements where upcoming events are communicated out to students as well as other informational items such as birthdays, spirit days and important dates.

Students are provided with a Chromebook to connect to classes and complete assignments on, families DO need to have internet access at home. As instruction occurs online, we have the expectation that parents and guardians are available to help support their children throughout the day. This support can mean helping with technical issues as well as being informed as to what is happening in class each day and ensuring students are attending classes and completing assigned work.

Students are expected to attend every day, ask questions and participate in class discussions. They also have the opportunity to schedule one-on-one meetings with their teacher OR may join scheduled small group interventions on a daily basis.

Each grade from Kindergarten - Grade 7 has a designated homeroom teacher who teaches the four core courses as outlined in the Alberta curriculum. Health and Physical Education are also included in each grade's weekly schedule.

Grades 8 and 9 have three teachers - one teaches Language Arts and Social Studies, one covers Math and Science, and the third teaches Health and Physical Education. All courses follow the Alberta curriculum.

In true FVSD form the decision to create the At-Home Learning Centre was made in response to the immediate needs of our communities, ensuring the continued support of students during the COVID-19 crisis. This online learning format offers families throughout the division the option to continue studies from home while still remaining connected to the larger school community.
